About this volume

Human-centered design for care, health, and well-being

This volume invites contributors to examine how usability and human-centered design can improve healthcare systems, patient-facing technologies, care workflows, public health communication, and well-being.

We are especially interested in contributors with experience in healthcare, digital health, patient experience, public health, accessibility, clinician workflows, care systems, or well-being.

What we are looking for

Broad health and well-being themes

Healthcare systems

Usability in clinical workflows, care delivery, administrative systems, and patient-provider communication.

Digital health

Patient portals, health apps, remote care, AI-enabled tools, medical devices, and health technology infrastructure.

Equity and well-being

Accessibility, public health communication, inclusive care, caregiver experiences, and human-centered well-being.

Contributor expectations

Substantial chapter-length contributions

We are seeking substantial, chapter-length contributions similar to the first volume. Chapters may draw on research, case studies, applied practice, clinical or public health experience, professional practice, or cross-sector perspectives.

Contributions should connect clearly to usability, accessibility, UX, HCI, or human-centered design within the theme of health and well-being.

Applications are collected through a Google Form. Selected contributors will receive additional guidance about chapter scope, timeline, and the editorial process.
